Official says Kiev, Gazprom can litigate tariff case for 6 years
KIEV, Oct 2 (PRIME) – Tariff litigations between Russian gas giant Gazprom and Ukrainian energy holding Naftogaz Ukrainy can last for six years, Naftogaz Ukrainy’s CCO Yury Vitrenko said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
Naftogaz Ukrainy submitted a U.S. $11.58 billion lawsuit against Gazprom to review the transit tariff since March 2018 to the Stockholm arbitration court in July. The Ukrainian company later offered a $12 billion amicable settlement of the case.
Vitrenko said, “A new arbitration case against Gazprom with our case amounting to more than $12 billion will not finish earlier than two–three years, judging by our experience. As we know, Gazprom avoids fulfillment of rulings by international arbitration at all costs, and in this case a forced reclaim will take one more year… Adding claims to the court of appeals and the Supreme Court of Sweden, this will take six rather than four years.”
